The National Basketball Arena, Tallaght, was the venue for this major festival of primary school music making. The Scoil Úna Naofa Orchestra with members from second to sixth class gave a fabulous rendition of three pieces. The tradional airs ‘Once a Man Fell in a Pond’, ‘Two in a Boat’ and ‘Paradise Island’ by Joanne Martin showed their great skill and musicality and got a great reception from the audience.
After the orchestra played we had the chance to hear other instrumental groups and choirs, and returned to school where all students and staff were treated to a rendition (with encore!) of the concert pieces.
Córfhéile is a non-profit making, voluntary organization that aims to provide an opportunity for children in primary school right around Dublin to perform in a non-competitive music festival. The children that perform in the Córfhéile do so for the enjoyment of singing, for the love of playing music or the desire to participate in a play or drama. Córfhéile is about developing confidence and a feeling of self-esteem for having performed in front of a large audience.
