As ‘Mind the Gap’ films film in the school the project grows and fundraising continues

January - A music marathon raised funds for the project


The Orchestra won a Youth Orchestra Achievement Award, sponsored by the Irish Aviation Authority, presented at the 2008 Festival of Youth Orchestras at the National Concert Hall, Dublin


Dublin Youth Orchestras Junior String Orchestra gave a concert for the whole school in the school hall.  


Heather Ronan, Yasmine Byrne, Rachel Clarke, Chloe Trappe Cassidy, Erin Carolan, Shauna Johnstone, Claire Hyland and Aishling Greenhalgh gained places at audition in Dublin Youth Orchestras. (see www.dublinyouthorchestras.ie )       

Boys classes from Scoil Colm Boys NS and 5th/6th Class girls from St Agnes perform at Cor Fheile na Scoileanna in the National Basketball Arena.


Some members of St Agnes’ Community Youth Orchestra took part in the National Concert Hall Learn & Explore department’s project along with musicians from several schools in Dublin, including Ballymun and Ballyfermot – culminating in a performance on June 4th in the John Field Room at the National Concert Hall, directed by Dorothy Conaghan.

Heather Ronan obtained a place to study viola with Elisabeth Csibi at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Lessons.


Pauline Cavanagh became the principal violin and viola teacher as Nicole Hudson’s career path took her more frequently on tour to the USA and Canada. Pauline is a former member of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and currently plays with the Hibernian Orchestra and teaches privately and at Artane School of Music.

The film crew from Mind the Gap films start making regular appearances in school as they worked on their documentary film Music Changes Lives.


The Orchestra performed in St Agnes' Church, Crumlin, at the Crumlin Mental Health Association's annual concert.


The Orchestra gave a concert at St Brigid's National School, Stillorgan. A Report on the concert was broadcast on RTE Radio 1 Morning Ireland Programme by Sinead Crowley, at 8:55 am on Friday 7th November 2008.


3rd class along with members of the Orchestra performed at the Sanctuary Christmas Carols at the invitation of Sister Stanislaus Kennedy. The concert took place in the President's Hall, Law Society Buildings, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7, and was presented by Marty Whelan.

St Agnes' CYO Christmas concert took place in St Agnes' Primary School.    

3rd class along with members of the Orchestra tell the story of Christmas in words and music at Lorcan O'Toole Day Centre for Seniors, Crumlin, at Caritas Nursing Home, Blackrock, and at the School for the Blind, Merrion  

A string ensemble of violins and violas was joined by Rosary College Recorder ensemble for performances of Christmas carols at Ashleaf Shopping Centre, Crumlin, in aid of Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross.
